The Company He Founded Over 75 Years Ago Still Bears The Family Name
The vision of John L. Scott Real Estate started over seven decades ago when a young Scottish immigrant named John L. Scott set out on a long journey with his bride and infant son in their Model-T Ford—destination San Diego. The two-year trip included a stop in the burgeoning city of Seattle where the young Scott later recalled, “It was like reaching City Beautiful in Pilgrim’s Progress.” San Diego was quickly forgotten; Seattle would become the Scott family’s new home.
There soon after, John L. Scott began working as a sales associate for a local real estate company, and in 1931, he established his own real estate company, building a successful business on his integrity and ambition to provide the highest quality customer service. Over the years, the John L. Scott name was largely built on successfully representing exclusive properties, making the company a recognized leader throughout the Northwest in luxury home sales. As Mr. Scott used to say, “John L. Scott represents quality homes on quality streets.”
Over seventy-five years later, John L. Scott Real Estate has grown to become one of the largest and most successful regional real estate companies in the nation, largely thanks to the ongoing commitment of the Scott family. Today, John L. Scott Real Estate’s strong heritage and vision continues through the founder’s grandson, Chairman and CEO, J. Lennox Scott.

Scott Real Estate is also considered the “Most Innovative Real Estate Company” in the nation, an award that was bestowed upon the company in 2002.
In 1997, John L. Scott Real Estate founded the John L. Scott Foundation in honor of the company’s founder. Every year John L. Scott donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to sponsor events that raise millions for children’s healthcare throughout the Pacific Northwest. The John L.
