Sellwood

It doesn’t take long to discover the attractiveness of Sellwood, one of Portland’s most popular neighborhoods.

In walking just a few of Sellwood’s sidewalk-lined streets, you will encounter coffee houses and fabulous restaurants, bakeries, antique shops, and pubs. One block more and you find yourself surrounded by vintage bungalows, their front porches perched above the street, and large trees filtering dappled sunlight at your feet.

There is a wonderful feel of community surrounding Sellwood's gathering places, including the county library, community gardens, public pool and churches. Just a couple more minutes of walking, and you can find yourself at one of Sellwood’s beautiful parks where families and children picnic, play, and even watch movies after dark! Sellwood's Westmoreland park features softball fields and a huge natural pond that attracts local ducks and geese.

The annual Rose Festival Milk Carton races are held at Westmoreland's Casting Pond, which is also frequently used for remote-control boat hobbyists. Lower Sellwood Park has an off-leash area for dogs, as well as a dock on the Willamette River and sandy beaches—a great place for fishing or cooling off on hot summer days.

If you are ready for a longer hike, choose the trails through Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Oaks Bottom is over 140 acres of wetlands dedicated to the preservation of the area's native wildlife, and you are likely to see a variety of birds, so don't forget your binoculars.

Whether it's tasty food, funky art, or stylish homes, Sellwood is truly a neighborhood that has it all.
