Welcome to Salem, the capitol of Oregon and the stunning Pacific Northwest. This city is nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley less than two hours to ocean beaches, wine country, Alpine skiing, and lush forests for hiking, fishing, camping and rafting. Salem lies just an hour south of Portland with all of its metropolitan attractions as well.

 

Our mild climate includes winter averages in the 40s and summer averages in the 80s. The summers are dry and have low humidity, and winters have little snow. It’s perfect climate for gardeners. Marion berries, named after Salem’s Marion County, grow spectacularly, as do blueberries, strawberries, hops, and dozens of other crops. Spend your weekends touring the many covered bridges, walking through wineries, and enjoying the nurseries and nearby Oregon Garden.

The local economy’s diversity provides stability and many employment opportunities. As this is the state capital, many jobs in the service industries are available. Salem also works as a bedroom community for South Portland and as a hub for a majority of the Willamette Valley population.
