Redondo

Redondo is a magical community perched near the border of Federal Way in King County.

Reportedly named by a settler from Redondo Beach, California, this charming neighborhood is largely centered around Redondo Beach, which boasts a lovely boardwalk and Salty’s Restaurant. On any given day, one may witness fishing boats, kayaks, scuba divers, and an occasional whale. Divers visit from far and wide including Canada to receive their scuba certification. Many of the properties enjoy a stunning view of Puget Sound framed by the snow-capped Olympic Mountains in the background.

Located at Redondo Beach is the Marine Science and Technological Center (MaST) for Highline Community College. This 2,500 square-foot facility offers a public space, a classroom, laboratories, office and research areas with state-of-the-art equipment, and 3,000 gallons of flow-through saltwater tanks that hold more than 100 species of local marine life. The MaST is dedicated to teaching marine biology and includes touch tanks for children. Sited in a lovely Cape Cod structure right on the beach, tours are given on Saturday mornings by students from Nautilus Elementary School. The MaST was recently given a whale skeleton for display in the tall ceiling of the foyer!
