Indianola

Indianola is known for its sense of community. Only those who live in Indianola get to enjoy the pleasure of the wonderful Indianola Beach as well as the wooden Indianola Fishing Pier.

Crabbing off the dock is a favorite pastime. Exploring the beaches at low tide is a great education on marine life. Kayaking is a wonderful escape.

Young and old alike enjoy building sand castles. Indianola is home to World Champion Sand Sculpture Artist Charlie Beaulieu. Charlie’s Sand Pieces are often on display in Indianola as well as other nearby communities.

For many years, Indianola was the place for city folks to come spend days at the beach in their little cabins. Then the secret got out and many people decided to call it a permanent home. Before you knew it, large Martha’s Vineyard-type homes were built all along what is known as the Indianola Sand Spit.

Every year, Indianola’s waterfront becomes flooded with Little Yellow Rubber Ducks. Why? Because wise community members learned that numbering the Yellow Ducks and racing them was a great way to raise money for the Indianola Community Center. The monies raised on this day help pay for the maintenance of this civic treasure.

Many community events happen at the Indianola Community Center. Rummage sales, art exhibits, plays, and spaghetti feeds are great opportunities for neighbors to visit with one another.

When one heads to the post office and store in Indianola, they are likely to stay for hours. Between seeing someone you know and grabbing something to eat at the Indianola Store, you’ll feel that chores back home can just wait. That’s life in Indianola!
