"North Kitsap" loosely refers to the northern end of the Kitsap Peninsula. It encompasses the communities of Poulsbo, Suquamish, Indianola, Kingston, Eglon, and Hansville. It covers an area lengthwise of about 20 miles.
Poulsbo is the largest of these Communities. Its downtown area is known as a Little Norway. Unique little shops line both sides of the streets. Poulsbo has grown over the years and now houses some of big box Stores like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Office Max, and Pet Smart. A mall is eight miles further south in the town of Silverdale.
Suquamish is a Suquamish Tribal Community. The community is famous for being the burial site of Chief Seattle (Sealth) at the Suquamish Tribal Cemetery. At the Gravesite, you will find very unique items left in honor of the Chief. Canoe races bring tribes from across the nation to compete in Puget Sound.
Indianola is known for their sense of community. They own a fishing pier that extends way out into Puget Sound. Crabbing off the pier is a lot of fun. Or take the steps down to explore the beach during low tide. The Indianola Store is known for Rob’s Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies!
Eglon is the smallest of the communities but it has a big heart. Community gatherings find neighbors mingling for hours. Horseback riding, farming, gardening, boating, and fabulous sunsets are enjoyed by those who live here.
Hansville is the home of the Point No Point Lighthouse and Park. “No Bank” sugar sand is hard to come by in our area, but not at Point No Point. Happy toes are found walking the beach in the moonlight or playing in the sand during the day. Coffee klatches are still enjoyed at the Hansville Store. Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone, but the fishing is great at Hansville!
North Kitsap is a way of life. Sure you can ride a ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle to catch ballgame or Broadway show, but the truth is there is so much to do in North Kitsap that you won’t often want to leave home.
