Living in West Seattle is awesome—living in the West Seattle neighborhood of Westwood is even better! This very friendly community consists primarily of single family residences that surround West Seattle’s mall, Westwood Village. Neighbors are eager to get to know each other, and there is a definite sense of pride and unity in this little area of Seattle.
Westwood is home to two wonderful parks. EC Hughes offers a wading pool, play structure, basketball court, and a field for soccer, softball, and baseball. Roxhill Park (aka Castle Park) has all of the above, and also features a play structure that is made of wood and looks like a castle. It is one of the many favorites of young children throughout the West Seattle area.
Westwood children attend Roxhill Elementary (Home of the Stars), Denny International Middle School (the Dolphins), and Chief Sealth International High School (the Seahawks). You may wonder why Denny and Sealth are referred to as “International.” Chief Sealth High School is a participant in the rigorous International Baccalaureate program. In some ways it is similar to the Advanced Placement Program, but this program is run in a “world” environment. The program is administered by International Baccalaureate headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
For fun and exercise, Westwood is home to the Southwest Community Center and Pool and the fantastic Southwest Athletic Complex. The Southwest Community Center and Pool offers an indoor pool, dance, music, games, teen center, playground, and gymnasium. The Southwest Athletic Complex offers two grass baseball fields of different sizes and a stadium with a turf field and a track around it. The stadium is designed to accommodate more than 10,000 spectators.
Last but not least is Westwood’s favored mall. Full of hustle and bustle, Westwood Village is full of fantastic shops, a few big box stores, a gym, and great restaurants. The mall presents holiday activities and summer events for the whole family.
