Tacoma


Named the "City of Destiny" when it became the final destination for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1873, Tacoma possesses a rich and robust history. The city is now easily recognizable from afar by the colossal Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the longest twin suspension bridge in the world

This wonderful place is a well kept 21st Century Northwest secret. Long hailed as mainly an industrial and military center, Tacoma has recently evolved into a unique and stylish neighborhood for urbanites and suburbanites alike.

Tacoma is one of the oldest cities in the Pacific Northwest. Its landmark buildings such as the 90 foot high Union Station, built in 1911 and refurbished in 1990 are historic treasures to behold. The Washington State History Museum downtown also contains similar artifacts of a smaller stature.

Meander down the sidewalks of the Ruston Way along the ocean front or take a peek at the animals in the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Visitors and residents both enjoy the many parks and walkways available in this beautiful city.

Delight with so many others in the yearly Wintergrass Festival in February, a bluegrass musical event featuring over thirty bands, or celebrate the Freedom Fair, Tacoma's unique 4th of July celebration.

Tacoma has all the shopping and dining of any major city, plus specialties all its own. Visit the quaint shops and small restaurants of Downtown Tacoma for some great finds.
