Wenatchee

Wenatchee is located in the heart of Washington State at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers near the eastern foothills of the Cascade Range midway between Seattle and Spokane.

Wenatchee is referred to as the “Buckle of the Power Belt of the Great Northwest” due to the close proximity of several major hydroelectric dams. Wenatchee is the county seat and central hub of Chelan County and is the largest city with a population of 30,270.

Wenatchee is known as the “Apple Capital of the World” but other fruits grown in the area and distributed throughout the world include pears, cherries, peaches, and apricots. In the past 5-10 years, vineyards and family farms have grown into an expanded role and the Wenatchee Valley is now a premier agri-tourism destination area.

With four distinct seasons, 300 sunshine-filled days a year, a river running through town, and mountains so close you can touch them, Wenatchee Valley offers an endless array of recreational opportunities. There are countless baseball diamonds, soccer fields, golf courses, an ice arena, swimming pools, tennis clubs, and other exercise facilities.

The Wenatchee Valley is home to a plethora of places to hike, fish, and hunt both birds and larger game. Water recreation includes kayaking, windsurfing, and water skiing on the Columbia and whitewater rafting and inner-tubing on the Wenatchee River. In the winter you can enjoy snowmobiling, sledding, or skiing and snowboarding at Mission Ridge, a short 30-minute drive from town. The 13-mile Apple Capital Recreational Loop Trail, which runs along both sides of the Columbia River, offers even more options for cyclists, walkers, joggers, and skaters.

Higher learning is a priority here. Wenatchee Valley College offers distance learning programs through Central Washington University and Washington State University. Vocational training in several fields is offered through the North Central Technical Skills Center and students receive a top notch education through the Wenatchee Public Schools.

With the addition of the Confluence Technology Center (CTC), Wenatchee gained a technologically advanced multi-function facility that can fill a multitude of communication and educational voids. The CTC allows local professionals, executives, and academics to host and participate in live, multi-site videoconferences without leaving the area. One of the main tenants is Yahoo. The Greater Wenatchee Area Technology Alliance (GWATA) was formed to keep Wenatchee abreast of the ever-changing technology issues that face the Valley.

In 2004, Wenatchee created a plan for its vision of future waterfront development along the Columbia River and three major components of that plan have been completed, including the Town Toyota Center, Riverside Drive, and Riverwalk Condominiums. Other projects in the planning or construction phases include Pybus Market, which will become the permanent home to the Wenatchee Valley Famers Market and additional condominiums, shops, hotels, and restaurants.

Welcome to the Wenatchee Valley—a great place to live, work and play!
